Day 2: A Thankful Heart

a thankful heart is a happy heart

A thankful heart IS a happy heart!  Thankfulness really changes our heart and outlook on life.  A few years ago I attended a small group study on Philippians 4:8.  The group leader challenged us to write down three things we were thankful for at the end of every day.  She wanted us to really commit to doing this for a week straight.

I thought it sounded easy enough and so I dove right in.  Right before bed every evening I would write down three things I was thankful for that day and kept the notebook on my bedside table.  The first few days, I really had to stretch to get three things, but I did.  Every day seemed to get easier and soon I was having a hard time keeping it to just three.  The transformation in my attitude towards life was unreal.

I want to challenge you to commit to writing down three things you are thankful for at the end of every day.  I think you’ll be surprised how closely our thoughts relate to how we feel about education and beyond.  I’d love to hear how it goes for you (and know that I’ll be doing the same for the next week)!

“I thank God for this day,
For the sun in the sky,
For my mom and my dad,
For my piece of apple pie!

For our home on the ground,
For His love that’s all around,
That’s why I say thanks every day!

Because a thankful heart is a happy heart!
I’m glad for what I have,
Thats an easy way to start!

For the love that He shares,
‘Cause He listens to my prayers,
That’s why I say thanks every day!”
